Jonah’s Fast – Three days in the dark

Blessed Fast of Jonah dear friends,

I had previously written a post about how the story of Jonah inspires me: you can read the post here:

This year, I was reflecting on the “3 days in the belly of the fish”. Total darkness.

Total darkness.

Completely detached from the world. In a cocoon with only one thing to do: pray!

Can you imagine 3 days of stillness, in communication with our Lord?

Would I (ever) be able to sit in absolute stillness for 3 days? 3 hours even?

How many distractions compete for my attention?

How many distractions do I allow to creep into my life and thus justify my excuse of “not enough hours, time, to devote to praying and reading the scriptures?”

As I ponder the answers to these questions, I am comforted by the story, yet again: our Lord is always looking to give us one more chance to return to His loving arms, even when we are running in the opposite direction.

God bless,

After graduating with a Major in Journalism, Mireille’s career path took an unexpected turn away from her beloved pen and paper. It took an equally unexpected turn of events for Mireille to start writing again. After spending many hours (too many!) watching super hero cartoons with her son, she realized that most Christian children are unaware of their superpowers! She set about creating the SuperHolies: the Fruits of the Holy Spirit re-imagined as superpowers to grab the children’s attention and teach them about their faith and its glory.
